1) How much media do you think you are exposed to each week?
I think that I am exposed to about 42 hours of media every week.
2) What forms does this media come in?
It comes in the form of the Internet, which include videos, songs and idea sharing websites like YouTube and Twitter. Also, they come in the form of newspapers and magazines, like the NY Times and TIME Magazine.
3) I believe the positive impacts of the constant exposure to social media is that it promotes the idea of identifying mistakes. For example, media platforms such as Facebook have a comment section that allows us to talk about a post on another person. Sometimes, the things they post are about today's events, some of them could be so outrageous for other people, that they would continue to rant about it. Therefore, it creates more discussion of ideas and more learning from other people's mistakes, which leads to us learning about more terminology that we might have not learned in school. Also, in the TED talk we saw earlier in class, it talks about new words or emoticons that our generation creates to describe sentences that would take too long when messaging someone.
On the other hand, it does affect the way we write, as in this generation we are writing the way we speak, while earlier generations were taught that there are specific rules about how we write in a formal language. So, there are clashing views on writing styles, which may lead to a change in how we are taught in English class.
4) I do not agree that we should limit our exposure to mass-media. Although, I do agree with Haruhisa's point about mass-media being a important function, but as we are getting more exposure to mass-media, people and businesses are more reliant on mass-media as a way to spread messages and get consumer's comments, and soon enough all of our daily life will be dependent on mass-media.
